Collaborative Learning

From the pen of Dr Padmani Karna, MD:

  • The MI Collaborative gives an opportunity to network with other MI NICU's and embark upon quality improvement projects by NICUs at state level

  • Quality Improvement is not Easy but Worth the Effort

  • The Goals for the MI VON Collaborative for 2009-2010 were:

    • To decrease late NI to lower quartile rate of VON (from 18.2% to 10.3%)

    • Compare CLABSI / 1000 line days with NHSN

  • As a result of the 2009 MI VON initiative, most centers demonstrated decrease in nosocomial infections in their units:

    • 64% centers with no late nosocomial infection for >  1 quarter

    • 71% centers with no CLABSI for >  1 quarter
